Puerto Madryn
The whale coast — Península Valdés and its great marine fauna.
— Trajet —
Jet 2 h from Buenos Aires
Puerto Madryn is the threshold to Península Valdés, a UNESCO World Heritage wilderness on the Patagonian Atlantic where southern right whales gather to breed within sight of the shore. FFGR Argentina arranges private whale-watching navigation between June and December, helicopter surveys of the peninsula's elephant-seal and sea-lion colonies, and quiet drives to the Punta Tombo penguin reserve, the largest continental colony in the world. We coordinate stays in discreet estancias overlooking the gulf, and visits to the Welsh tea villages of Gaiman, where the descendants of nineteenth-century settlers still serve afternoon tea in their gardens. The wildlife here is approached slowly and with respect; the scale of the southern ocean does the rest.
